“When I was 17, I got pregnant and my boyfriend disappeared. My parents were 100% supportive and so helpful. But in the chaos, my mother moved from a twice a month church attender to a Bible-thumping, scripture-quoting religious bigot. In addition to this, a new ‘live in this house, follow these rules’ system was established. I don’t go to church, but my now six year-old daughter does. Just last week she brought home from (private, expensive, Christian) school a picture of Mommy ‘burning in hell forever’, and the rest of the family having fun in heaven. Happy birthday to me.”
