“I grew up across the street from a nondenominational christian family who had a daughter the same age as I and a younger daughter. My parents are non practicing lutherans, so the neighbors would take me to church, Awanas, youth group, and so on with my parents’ approval. Around the age of 12 I became pagan.
When I turned 16, my parents divorced and I went a little wild. My boyfriend moved in with me and my mom, I started smoking and I drank a little. Aside from my boyfriend actually living with me, I actually wasn’t as wild as a lot of the kids at school- I didn’t even smoke pot.
However, on my 17th birthday, long after my neighbor and I had stopped exchanging gifts, she came by with a card and ‘the greatest gift I could give you’. In the card she informed me that when I was done with boys and drinking and drugs and false religion, I would find a hole in my heart, and that’s where Jesus would be. She told me that she was so worried that I’d be 18 and pregnant and unmarried and an addict or a drunk. But all it would take was Jesus to save me.
10 years later, I’m still a pagan, childfree by choice and no longer even a smoker. I stood in my now ex’s wedding. Although I’m going late, I’m a full time student supported by my awesome boyfriend. She got married because she got pregnant, her younger sister is an addict, a smoker and an unwed mother with a deadbeat ex.”
