“Speaking of proselytizing at funerals, when my dad’s cousin died the pastor officiating the funeral began with the normal funeral type offerings—speaking of my cousin’s life, having family say a few words, offering prayers, etc. But after that he began talking about how my cousin had accepted God at the end (he died of cancer) and that we should all think about being closer to Jesus because we never know when our time will come.

My family is not particularly religious, but we all just nodded along, until we realized he wasn’t going to stop talking about it. He went on for nearly an hour, trying to guilt trip us into converting just because our cousin supposedly did. Now, if you knew my cousin, you knew he was a hellraiser and a tough ass son of a bitch, who didn’t suffer bullshit lightly, so all this God stuff was out of character for him.

So people began to leave. A lot of people. Together. Rudely, because they knew this wasn’t my cousin. And the guy just kept going!

It was the worst funeral service I’ve ever been to.”
